Notes from the cottage

Trading city walls for stone, timber, and slow hearths

A personal chronicle documenting the dusty reality of home renovation, regional recipes, and back roads without staged perfection.

The beginning

Rebuilding the hearth and logging each week

Started in 2021 after trading a cramped city apartment for a draughty hundred-year-old stone cottage. Every weekend brought new surprises behind the lathe plaster, from uneven oak beams to chimneys that needed a complete reset.

Instead of rushing the finish, we learned to enjoy the gaps, letting the lime wash cure naturally while we simmered bone broths on the vintage stove.

Independent writing

Built on patience and salvaged materials

We believe real homes take years to assemble, not a weekend sponsored haul. Every project here relies on second-hand finds, scraps and offcuts from local timber yards, and seasonal produce gathered from roadside markets.

There is no affiliate marketing or staged photo sets behind these dispatches. What you see is simply the work in progress—dusty, quiet, and recorded just as it happens between coats of paint.
